Gardening With Grandma

July 15, 2013

Years ago someone gave a little talk. The best part was when one of the audience members said, "I'm curious how you became interested in plants in the first place." He said he'd realized that he had a way with plants, and all he had to do was to put his hands over one and say, "Grow!" and then, by golly, the plant grew. Well, we were absolute-ly charmed, and at least to my way of thinking it's really funny. There's always that magic that goes with the science.

What else might dolls want to know about growing things?

That it's lots and lots and lots of fun! If you get a little clump of something, and you watch those little things come springing to life, what a thrill! It's one of God's miracles, you just — you can't help but just relishing the joy of watching the creation of life and living."

Any particular plants you recommend for dolls?

The geranium. They come in pink and white and red, yellow, bi-colored and purple, and some of the leaves smell like peppermint or nutmeg or are fuzzy or have edges of red, white or yellow. The biggest geraniums, you could get about 5 dolls living in, so they'd have to be a house, (laughs), but the smallest are about doll-sized, just right. ¶
